WeldMate 2.0: New Features for Robotic Welding

WeldMate 2.0 introduced several improvements directly inspired by real-world shop floor use.

What’s new: stitch welding, the ability to edit an existing saved reference part, and calibration tools now built directly into WeldMate.

Three improvements with one goal: reduce manual steps and make the robot even easier to adapt to real production conditions.

 New Features

1.Stitch Welding: Weld Only Where You Need To


Stitch welding is a basic welding technique: it reduces stress on the material and uses less filler metal.

With WeldMate 2.0, you can now turn a single weld seam into multiple weld segments spaced along the same path.

Two setup modes are available:

  • Automatic: choose the number of segments and their length. WeldMate automatically calculates the spacing and distribution.
  •  Manual: define the length of each segment yourself for precise control over how the welds are distributed.

You can also adjust the retraction distance between each weld segment.

What This Changes on the Shop Floor

This feature makes it easier to:

  • avoid existing tack welds on the part;
  • skip holes, cutouts, or openings;
  • create intermittent weld seams more easily;
  • deposit weld metal only where it is needed.

In short: you can adapt the weld seam more easily to the specific requirements of your part.

2. Edit a Reference Part Without Starting Over

The reference part workflow remains the same: scan an initial part, define the weld seams and their welding parameters, then save the setup so it can be reused on similar parts.

With WeldMate 2.0, an existing reference part can now be edited directly.

You can reopen the saved weld seams, adjust their position or welding parameters, and then save the updated version.

Those changes are retained for all future parts using that reference.

What This Changes on the Shop Floor

  • Need to correct a setting after producing the first few parts?

  • Need to adjust a welding parameter?

  • Need to modify a weld seam?

  • No need to start over.

You can refine your reference part as production progresses, without repeating the entire teaching process.

This was a recurring request from WeldMate users. It is now a standard feature in WeldMate 2.0.

3. Calibration Information* Directly in WeldMate 

To ensure system accuracy, WeldMate relies on camera and tool calibration procedures.

With WeldMate 2.0, camera and tool calibration tools are now accessible directly from the application.

What This Changes on the Shop Floor

  • fewer manual steps;
  • an easier procedure to follow;
  • more accessible maintenance and setup.

This is also a first step toward progressively integrating more setup and maintenance tools directly into WeldMate.

 *Calibration is intended for experienced users, such as installers.
